This is Kevin's Story...

Kevin Turner with his childrenFor many years, I suffered from migraine headaches, back pain and heartburn.  In fact, I suffered from these ailments so often that they almost seemed like they were just part of my life.  I had seen my physician for these symptoms, and he had prescribed medications that included codeine, muscle relaxants and antacids.  But, after a while, I didn’t just want to treat the symptoms, I wanted to get rid of them.  I needed to figure out what was causing these symptoms so that I could get rid of them completely.
At a friends recommendation, I went to see an acupuncturist.  That was back in 1995.  My life hasn’t been the same since.
Accupuncture has truly changed my life.
My acupuncturist assured me that he could help me to get rid of the pain, and he did.  After just a few treatments all my symptoms had decreased dramatically — the migrane headaches, the back pain, and the heartburn.  In addition to addressing these symptoms my acupuncturists did something that I actually was not expecting.  He began to open my eyes to how I could live healthier.  He opened my eyes to life around me and to how I could be happier.  He didn’t just treat the physical symptoms, he treated my whole self, the mental, emotional, and spiritual parts of me.  My acupuncturist helped me to understand that I could actually heal myself by taking better care of “whole” self.  I know it seems like simple advise, but for me it began a journey of discovery and rediscovery about me and the world around me.
In 1999, this path led me to study Zen Shiatsu Massage at the Boston Shiatsu School in Cambridge, MA.  There, in September of 2000 I completed a rigorous, 720-hour program in this Japanese form of massage.  While there I also learned Chi Kung Meditation.  Through these two forms of Oriental medicine, I began to see how I could not only live my life better, but also how I could help others to live happier and healthier lives.
I continued along this path, and by the spring of 2008 I had earned my Master’s Degree in acupuncture from the Tai Sophia Institute in Columbia, MD.  This program included three years of class work and extensive clinical practice.  After graduation, I became a acupuncture detoxification specialist and have worked nearly 200 hours in drug rehabilitation clinics.  Additionally, I have been trained in trauma acupuncture dealing specifically with PTSD experienced by our servicemen and women returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Acupuncture has truly changed my life.  Thanks for taking the time to read my story.  I am looking forward to hearing yours.
