Acupuncture + Shiatsu
One of the things that makes Clarity Acupuncture unique is that for many of treatments, we combine Acupuncture and Shiatsu Massage (pronounced shē -ät’-soo) thereby treating you on multiple energy levels. This combination of therapies allows for a more complete ability to address individual concerns and offers more effective, efficient treatments.
Shiatsu massage is a complete system of healing bodywork that involves gentle stretching and light hand and finger pressure along specific energy pathways on the body. It utilizes the same healing modality as acupuncture, and therefore the two therapies work well in tandem as treatments.
Shiatsu actually combines traditions from both Chinese and Western massage. It is performed while the patient is fully clothed and no oils are used during the treatment. This offers an added level of convenience, comfort and relaxation for many people. Shiatsu can treat everything from headaches and muscle soreness to painful menstruation and chronic back pain. Additionally, shiatsu massage can help with anxiety, stress, tension and muscle issues. Regular treatments can improve overall blood circulation, posture and energy flow in a patient.
Overcoming Needle Concerns
Though many don’t like to admit it, one of the bigger concerns about acupuncture revolves around the needles used for treatment. These concerns can include fear of pain, scaring, or or tissue damage. But rest assured, when performed by an experienced, licensed practitioner there’s little need for concern. These tiny needles are nothing like the syringes typically used in medical settings to administer medication. In reality, acupuncture needles are extremely thin, about the width of one to two human hairs. Since the needles are so tiny and inserted just under the skin, you should not expect to experience any pain or bleeding.
In fact, most patients don’t feel the needles at all.
For those who do feel something, sensations may include a slight sting or a tingling sensation. Any preliminary sensations disappear in a few seconds, after which the patient will feel deeply relaxed and peaceful. Most acupuncture sessions involve only two to six needles. All the needles we use are sterilized, come in individual packets, and are disposed of after each use.
